Employment and Accomplishments

Wesley spent four years working for The Post, the independent student newspaper at Ohio University.

He was the paper's editor-in-chief for the 2011-12 academic year, overseeing a staff of roughly 50 paid staff members and 65 unpaid contributors.

Under his leadership, The Post won 13 Associated Press of Ohio professional journalism awards.

Wesley's tenure as editor included numerous special projects. The staff produced a special issue to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, a Homecoming Edition, Summer Orientation and Welcome Back guides and a 60-page, full color book commemorating the Ohio men's basketball team's run to the Sweet 16.

The staff underwent a new focus on social media — during which each team required daily interaction with readers using Facebook and Twitter. The paper's Facebook page gain more than 1,000 likes while the paper's various Twitter accounts gained more than 2,500 followers combined.

The paper launched an iPhone app — making it one of the few college papers in the country to prioritize mobile presence.

Based off of the Wall Street Journal's NewsHub, Wesley launched "The Rundown" — a daily video update, shot in the newsroom, that ran for 10 weeks.

The year also included a renewed focus on in-depth reporting projects including:

• The 9/11 edition — More than 20 articles, multimedia pieces, slideshows and flash animation.
• Aiding Athens — a five-part philanthropic series about the struggles on non-profits in Athens. Heavily multimedia based.
• Under the Influence, under 21 — A three-part, CAR project examining the lack of drinking age enforcement at local bars.
• Investigating Athens — A three-part investigation into the slum lords who run Athens' off-campus living.
